I felt like I was brain dead today in class as we worked on conjugation of verbs. My classmates, Kathleen from Montreal and Denise from Switzerland were breezing through it and I felt like an idiot. Come to find out it is the same in French and guess what they both speak? Right. Denise speaks several languages and is now learning Espanol. I guess Roger Federer isn't the only multilingual Swiss.
My family here are gentle people with little in the way of luxury but they treat me like one of them. They always talk to me and at first I found that very stressful but now I'm understanding them and even able to respond a bit.
Most of the students in our school are European and that has been wonderful talking to them about the World and how we all fit in it: how we are different and how we are the same. You know I am eating this up. We get out of school at 5pm and now have started going for beer until 7 or so then we all go home to do homework. Four of us were out tonight, one from Scotland who now lives in Switzerland, one from Canada, one from Germany and me from Virginia. What a conversation we had. We tried to do it in Spanish but Kathleen and I are such beginners that it just didn't work so we all switched to English.
I am much busier than I expected and the internet at the school is very bad so I have to wait until I get home at night, do my homework and then write in the blog. I took some pictures today but don't have the time tonight to attach them. Maybe tomorrow.
Today it was hot, it was humid, it was Costa Rica. This isn't a 3rd World country but no higher than 2nd.

We are glad you made it safely to Costa Rica and are enjoying the experience. Si', Muy Bien! As you can see, my Spanish is very limited. We are enjoying reading you blog and can't wait to see the pictures. Stay save...senorita. Ron and Patty

ReplyDeleteYou should get one of those manuals that has 501 Spanish verbs. They're conjugated in all the tenses. You're doing better than you think; you say everything is hard and then you succeed. Enjoy the ride!
