contrasting impressions

This place is nothing if not contradictory. It is beautiful and nasty at the same time. I'm learning a beautiful language in a place where you have to put your toilet paper in a can not in the toilet...yep I said that. And to make things worse they use completely degradable paper so that as soon as it touches anything wet, like your bottom, it begins to biodegrade and you end up with a real nice wad of stuff in your hand. Yep, I said that too. Then you get to see a real live sloth in a tree. That's what is in this picture.
I just wrote for several minutes, lost my signal and lost my blog. This is really frustrating. I guess I have to save after every sentence and I am too tired to do that. I am back in San Jose after a weekend spent with people so young they have no fear. We drove 3 hours to the jungle getting to the beach at Manuel Antonio. Found a hostel where they wanted to stay and I took one look as I stood there leaking sweat from everywhere, walked across the road and registered in a motel. It didn't have AC but it did have a shower, a pool, lush surroundings and was waking distance to all the bars. What is it about beaches and bars? Well, I did my famous trick after too much tequila through my lap and into my shoes. That sounds bad but I was the only one that felt good this morning. Not to worry, the bar was an open air thing with floors that they clean with a garden hose every night. I was in bed and completely empty by 8:30 last night. That's another thing, because it gets dark really early everybody starts drinking early. In the same day I saw spider monkeys in a tree as I walked through the jungle to the beach. This place is really something and I know yall will get really sick of me talking about it when I get back. I have homework tonight so I feel like a teenager- I'm just not into it but I came here to learn the language and so I'll do the work.

Today it was hot, humid and...I guess I already said that.

  1. You saw a SLOTH in the WILD! That's just unreal! BTW, I though you had sworn off te-kill-ya. I guess some lessons can never be learned no matter how long you're in school. ;)
