Today I experienced something very new. I was sitting outside at one of the table where we congregate between classes and the floor started rocking. Left and Right I went for 3 or 4 minutes and then it faded...it was an earth quake! This trip just gets more and more expanding. From our teacher I got that earthquakes are somewhat common and that I should not worry. Yeah you say. Another first in my life.
Tomorrow the chase starts as I leave for the Pacific coast with 4 other people, not knowing where we are headed and not having reservations anywhere. These kids assure me that in a hostel you don't need reservations and everything will be fine. I am the only American going and by far the oldest by at least 30 years or more. It is an adventure, I keep telling myself and after spending this week without creature comforts like hot water or a real bed I think I can do anything. It's really easier than camping and sleeping on the ground-but not by much.
However, when I get up every morning I have a huge plate of fresh tropical fruit, hot tea, and rice waiting for me on the kitchen table, along with whatever was left from last night's dinner. Also, each evening when I get to my Tico home my laundry is clean, folded, ironed and on the end of my bed. I don't know enough Spanish yet to tell them that don't need to do my laundry for just one day but next week I will.
Another special moment in CR: I was taken out of class because one of the staff members who had had a bleeding issue fainted, paramedics came, they called the doctor who called the pharmacy and had a glass ampule of vitamin K and a syringe sent to the school and asked me to give this woman a shot. They are really lax on their health restrictions as it seems.I did it and did not bat an eye.
I have taken pictures for the past 2 days but don't have time to download yet.
Today it rained, was hot, humid and very Costa Rican.
