It is now perfectly clear to me why kids quit school. Since coming here I have had a great experiences, met many interesting people and gone to school. The school part I did not take as seriously as the rest. Now I find myself behind and wanting to quit so I talked to the director and asked to be put back a week. This is my 3rd week of classes without studying except for doing my homework. I am not brilliant and but have always made good grades because I study. When you get behind and it's is your fault the stress of going to class unprepared is awful. I dread it when I know the teacher is going to call on me. I thought I the only way to relieve the stress was to quit but I have now worked it out to stay in my class with my same teacher to finish my 4 weeks. As it turns out the other two people in the class leave Friday and I'll have private lessons next week, my last week. I am going to study from now on even to taking my books to the beach this coming weekend. I know, I know that doesn't sound like I'm serious but I cannot stay here all weekend struggling to talk to my Tico family. It is difficult staying here for too long because there isn't anything in English except this net book and trying to see it under my 25watt bulb light is a strain.
Now about the bus: I know only poor people ride the bus because it is so unpleasant I know they would do otherwise if they could. I rode home today with so many sweaty bodies I almost had to fight to get off when we got to my stop, There were people standing in the stairs at the door. Another thing, when you need to get a bus or taxi for that matter there are very specific rules. You stand facing the bus and raise your right arm with palm down and wave at your right foot. If you wave at them like we do in the States they wave back and keep on going because they know you don't know what you're doing.
Another bit of information: the largest immigration group here is the Chinese...go figure. The second largest is Germans. If we are not careful the Chinese will have Costa Rica as a territory like we have Puerto Rico and then where would be with them in our back yard?
